By using EarthquakeIndex you accept these terms. Please read them — especially the section stating that the data must not be used for life-critical decisions.

About the service

EarthquakeIndex is a free web service that shows earthquakes from around the world in near real time. The data comes from EMSC and is shown unedited alongside maps, lists, statistics and background articles.

Data accuracy and disclaimer

Earthquake data is provided "as is" and "as available". Figures for magnitude, location, depth and time are computed automatically and are frequently revised in the hours after a quake. Data may be delayed, incomplete or in error, and the service may be unavailable without notice.

EarthquakeIndex must not be used for life-critical decisions, emergency response, evacuation, early warning or safety decisions. In an emergency, always follow the official authorities and your local emergency services. The service is for information and general interest — it is not a warning system.

No warranty and no liability

The service is provided without any warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, EarthquakeIndex disclaims all liability for any loss or damage arising from the use of — or inability to access — the site or its data, including decisions made on the basis of the information shown.

Intellectual property

The site's own design, text and source code belong to EarthquakeIndex. The earthquake data belongs to EMSC and the contributing institutes; felt reports are licensed under CC BY 4.0. You are welcome to reference and link to the site, but you may not copy our editorial content at scale without permission.

Acceptable use

You must not misuse the service: do not try to overload the server, scrape data aggressively, circumvent rate limits or disrupt operation. The comment feature must not be used for spam, harassment, unlawful or offensive content. We may remove content and block access in case of misuse.

Changes to the terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always shown here with a "Last updated" date, and significant changes are noted in our changelog. Continued use after a change is considered acceptance.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Danish law. Any disputes are settled by the Danish courts.
